The Washington Mixed Breed Dog club does NOT condone the breeding of mixed breed dogs.  All of our members' mixed breed dogs MUST be spayed or neutered as part of the membership agreement.

     All mixed breed dogs and purebreds that are NOT eligible for registration in AKC are welcome to register with the WMBDC.  Some of our members have only mixed breeds, some have purebreds as well as mixed breeds, while others only own purebreds.  In any case, we encourage our members to bring ALL of their dogs to participate in the club.

     Many of our members are or have been involved in dog rescue groups or volunteering at local Humane Societies.  While we love our dogs, we try to educate the general public about the pitfalls of mixed breeding.

      Many of our members also compete in a variety of sports with their dogs: obedience, agility, fly ball, frisbee, weight pull, Rally, freestyle, lure coursing, as well as many other performance sports.  Mixed breeds may also compete in 'Conformation' although the dogs are all sterile.  Conformation is a fun event that is critiqued on roughly the same standards as it is for purebred dogs.  Mixed breeds can earn enough points to become a 'Champion'-even though they cannot produce offspring.

     You do not have to participate in performance sports to be a member of our club.  While we do host a few performance activities every year, we also host other fun events such as picnics, workshops & seminars, fun and games, and banquets.  All dogs of all levels are welcome.

     We encourage members to bring their friends and family to events to join in the fun.  By increasing the physical and emotional contact between a dog and its family, many behavior problems can be lessened or completely removed.  Most behavior problems people face with their dogs are simply because the dog is bored!  Unfortunately, this is also one of the main reasons that dogs are turned over to shelters and Humane Societies.
